Maybe a baby for Raino

Having to wait nearly a year is a long time for anything. Especially having to wait on a little bundle of joy. You may recall my post from last November about Rain's pregnancy test results. They were negative. Then, over the winter I started noticing some changes in Rain. They got me thinking, maybe a baby for Raino after all.

I've been watching her close for any signs of foal movement as her belly changes shape. Is it just a hay belly or a growing foal? My mind has gone back and forth. Some days I've thought for sure she has to have a baby in there. Other days, nope. I've tried bumping her to feel a foal with no success.

The picture below was taken on March 3, 2018. Notice her girth is flat followed by a slightly pronounced dip in her belly.

Cant Stop the Rain

I fed the girls dinner and settled in for my nightly belly watch. Rain took a few bites and then walked away to roll. She definitely appeared irritated. After rolling she stood up and started flicking her tail fairly aggressively. She went back to eating, but would stop to flick her tail in irritation and I noticed her belly seemed to pulse a bit. I tried to bump her again and though I didn't feel movement, I felt a solid object that I thought might be a foal. My confidence grew, but I was not completely convinced.

Cant Stop the Rain

I assumed my usually perch after putting hay out for the girls and watched Rain's belly for any sign of movement. Just as I was about to call it day, I spotted two good kicks that could not be mistaken for anything but a foal!!!

Raino will have a baby after all!

Rain was bred on June 12, 2017 to our stallion, Im Not a Redhead. She is 286 days along. Her 342 gestational due date is May 20, 2018.
